If you haven't heard of the Kardashian's then you must live on Mars. I was on Khloe Kardashian-Odom's website and read where she said that her family are opening up a store at Mirage Las Vegas called Kardashian Khaos. The store promises to sell all of their merchandise and popular endorsements. Seriously, these girls are unstoppable.
With Kris Jenner in their corner as the personal manager, it seems that she is a true "hustler" in the sense. I know everyone gives the Kardashian girls credit, but I really want Kris Jenner to write a book on her strategy to being so successful at marketing and managing. Is there anything that these Kardashian's and Jenner's can't do? With all these endorsements and businesses, these girls will probably make Forbes soon.
So, how can I brand myself? Well, I probably have to land on television first, right? I think that being an Entrepreneur and working for yourself is the best feeling. I remember my father being so savy with business. I only wish that I would have paid more attention.
I wish that the Kardashian's would be booked at a conference to further explain their hustle. I'd even settle for going to a seminar if they hosted one.
Today I watched Joy Behar's show which shares the same title as her name. I was really ticked off with her rude and ridiculous comments. Her segment had a panel of individuals talking about dieting methods. First off, none of her panelist were Doctors. She started by criticizing celebrities regarding their dieting choice. She talked about Jessica Simpson, Beyonce, and several others. Oh, and she mentioned Jennifer Hudson for choosing a popular weight loss endorser. If I'm not mistaken, didn't Joy once endorse Weight Watchers? Or maybe it was Jenny Craig, either way, how can she judge?
She started off by saying, "I want to talk about these alleged food allergies.
Joy decided to make a statement that, "some people are tricking themselves to make themselves think they have food allergies to lose weight." She went on to say that all of a sudden everyone has Celiac Disease, etc. First off, you can't fake a food allergy. When you go to the Doctor about food allergies they test you through blood or a skin test.
Her comments were insulting, unmerited, and ridiculous. She really shouldn't make comments like that without having research behind her comments.
I have suffered from food allergies for years, and it has NOTHING to do with losing weight. People with food allergies suffer on a daily basis. She's really starting to rub me the wrong way with her comments.
I wonder how her co-host of The View Elizabeth Hasselbeck feels, since she's a longtime suffer of Celiac. So, is Larry King still retiring?!?! I think there needs to be more shows like this on HLN and CNN. No time for Joy Behar all day long!
So, I have been relentless in trying to contact various people to review my poetry book, Diary of a Skinny Girl. Two weeks ago I decided that I would look up the address to Tyler Perry's production studio in Atlanta, Georgia and send him a copy. I went to the Post Office, handed the carrier my package, asked to add a Delivery Confirmation Receipt--ooo, I was happy! Last week, I tracked my packaged and noticed that it was delivered to Atlanta Georgia. Actually, it said that it was delivered to his studio. You have NO idea how happy I was to even dream of Tyler Perry reading my book. Unfortunately, my package was returned today with a big note on the front, "Return to Sender." Damn, what does a girl have to do to get her book reviewed by Tyler Perry?
I'm sure when Gabourey Sidibe made her way into Hollywood she probably never expected for her weight to become such headline news. Everyone from Howard Stern to Nene from Real Housewives of Atlanta has an opinion. Howard Stern made a point that, because of her size she will not obtain many movie roles.
Here's my take on this situation:
Gabourey is an overweight young lady, we can all see that. Unfortunately, this society is obsessed with beauty and appearance. Do I agree with Howard Stern? I absolutely do! I'm almost sick of individuals saying that she's a beautiful young lady and looks great, because it's a lie. Yes, I think that she has a pretty face and beautiful spirit about her, but she's obese! Why sugarcoat the facts? Obesity is a silent topic in America, and it shouldn't be. If someone is too thin, we talk about it, but if someone is too fat we walk on egg shells--afraid to speak the truth. Afraid to hurt someone's feelings.
When I look at her and the scrutiny behind her weight, I'm reminded of when Star Jones first made her mark in Hollywood. Star wasn't an actress, but she was a talk show host and many people were uncomfortable with her obesity. Why? because once again, people want to admire a certain image. All people want to look at beauty, and not just Hollywood actors, media, or beautiful people. I'm even guilty of it. I once took a personality test in my Psychology class and it was concluded that I love beauty... actually, it said that I am obsessed with beauty and have to be around beautiful things and people to be happy. Was I surprised? Hell no! because, it's the truth. But, I'm not afraid to admit it! Neither was Howard Stern, as cruel as he can be.
For all we know, Gabourey could be losing weight, but until people begin to see a noticeable difference, she will be "the big girl from Precious." Yes, I know that's harsh, and trust me, I don't necessarily agree. I think she's a talented actress. Also, I think that she should be able to handle her weight issues in the privacy of her own home with close family and friends, but that's just not how the world works. I definitely think that she'll get offered movie roles, but lets be honest, how many roles are written for overweight women in Hollywood? Not many. Especially, if she is trying to become a full-time actress. Ok, lets take her weight out of the factor for a bit... Besides her weight, she has another strike against her, and that is the fact that she's a black woman. It has been widely discussed that unless you're Will Smith or Halle Berry, there aren't many roles for you. And, it took Will and Halle years to get such notoriety, btw. Maybe Gabourey will change Hollywood, who knows. We may all be wrong.
Another thing,
I've heard several people in the media compare her to Hattie McDaniel, Oprah, and Kathy Bates, in regards to weight. It's just not the same. And can I say, it's the silliest comparison ever. Are people really this off?
First off, when Hattie McDaniel started acting it was 1932. She began acting during a time when many black people were still considered second class citizens to white people. Also, Hollywood did not focus as much on weight than. Another thing, Hattie McDaniel often played a maid in movies and was often typecast. She was a woman who endured several unfortunate circumstances simply because of her color.
The comparison to Oprah...
This is another dumb comparison. Oprah began her career in broadcast, and I'm sure she encountered discrimination being a minority in the world of broadcast. When she began acting in 1982, as Sofia in The Color Purple, she had already established herself as a talk show host. Although, Oprah occasionally acts, she is not a full time actress.
Kathy Bates...
Once again, she began her career in the 70s. Yes, people were concerned with weight, but it was not an issue like it is today. And I'm willing to bet that when she began her career she was smaller.
Bottom line...
People shouldn't be so concerned about another persons weight, but the fact is, people are. I definitely think that it's unfortunate that Jessica Simpson gets scrutinized for her weight though. Jessica Simpson is not fat by any standards. However, Gabourey is obese and we can all see that. Obesity is a serious issue in America, and I hope that instead of everyone throwing darts at her and worrying about her "Hollywood roles" no pun intended! People talk about the real issue, and that is that, obesity is an epidemic in our country and needs to be properly addressed. She isn't the only one in America that is obese, but when you decide to become an actor that is the price you have to pay. No, she didn't ask to be famous... only an actor, but we all know that actor and fame are usually synonymous.
I was reading an article on Bossip.com about the difference between men and women when it comes to having casual sex. Rapper Bow Wow, discussed the difference and talked about how women become jealous and obsessed, but that men are capable of understanding the difference between casual sex and sex in a relationship.
First off, who gives Bow Bow the right to suddenly be an expert, isn't he like 12? Haha. I kid, I kid. No, but I'm really starting to get tired of the overwhelming amount of men who feel that because they are in the spotlight they're experts on men and women as it relates to dating. Sure, I recognize that there is a difference in the way men and women interact, and I also recognize that women are emotional by nature, but I know several women who are capable of having sex and accepting it as just SEX. I'm tired of men portraying us as whiny, overly emotional, hormonal broads! I'll admit, all these things can apply to me, but that's only when I'm watching Lifetime, so suck it!
Maybe, I'm being harsh. In their defense men don't always think before they speak. Darn, I guess that's pretty harsh too. Point being is that, men aren't the only ones who want just a sexual relationship. I have friends who tell guys straight up, "I just want sex, and not a relationship." Sure, the majority of women probably would like a committed relationship, but aren't there men who equally want the same?
Where the problem lies
Here's the problem. Men and women communicate differently. Oftentimes, a man will know that a woman doesn't want JUST a sexual relationship, but he'll enter into the situation anyway. We women are just as guilty, because we know what the guy wants, and instead of walking away, we walk into the situation hoping "he changes" his mind. Some men think with their anatomy and some women think with their hearts.
These roles can sometimes be reversed. Equally, a man can think with his heart, and a woman can think with her anatomy.
NEWSFLASH
Men don't change their minds regarding sex. There are instances where more feelings are developed, but rarely does a man change his mind.
SIDENOTE
Why are there so many books written by men on how women should act? And, so many movies--once again, written by men on women? In my opinion, standards of a woman have been set so high, but not by ourselves. These standards have been set based on men. Don't get me wrong, I love, honor, and respect THE MAN. But, I'm sick of being objectified all because of a particular standard that has been placed. We should all be able to screw who we want, date who we want, and act the way we want without some celebrity or reject pointing the finger believing that he has all the answers.
So as I end this long blog, because of rants... Here's my finger
"screw you."
I just watched Wendy Williams' show today and Regina King sat on the couch. She talked about "her wonderful man in her life" and how he was the love of her life. "He is a man," said Wendy.
So, it didn't take me long to figure it out! I don't even know if my guess is accurate, but I'm convinced that she's dating Malcolm Jamal Warner. For some reason, I assumed that he was still with Karen Malina White aka Charmaine, his co-star on Cosby Show.
My guess may not be accurate, but in my head I'm right. If they are together, all I have to say is "you go girl." I have had a crush on Malcolm Jamal Warner since he was Theo on Cosby... lol. Although, I'm about 12 years younger than him, but it's all good.
I may be jumping the gun here, but this is by far the best movie of the year. I definitely think that Tobey Maguire deserves every award that he's nominated for. It deals with pain, PTSD, betrayal... so many things make this a great movie. I actually want to see it again. Love it! And, Natalie Portman did a phenomenal job as well. Go see it!
The stories about Tiger Woods cheating on his wife are not difficult to believe. The man is a human being! I'm annoyed with the media coverage. Why are they talking about him on every channel? There even discussing him on CNN. Did his wife knock the back windows out or didn't she? That is the question. Who really cares? And, what does that have to with us? Are we going to gain something by knowing the intimate details of his life? I think not!
All these scallywags that are popping up.... gross! I'm insulted by his taste in women and would rather not know who he's sleeping with. What's my gripe? I'm annoyed with the media attention and Tiger Cheetah cat for not having better security on his business. How humiliating. Damn Tiger! I really defended this guy as much as possible, too.
When all is said and done everyone has the right to privacy. There's also been discussion about him losing his endorsements, and I really don't think that he should lose them. What's the point? His trifflin activities has nothing to do with his performance as a golfer. Don't take that away from him! All in all, I'm tired of America putting celebrities on a higher pedestal. He's not God...
The question of the hour is, why do men cheat and leave tracks--especially when they have sooooo much to lose??? That's the million dollar question.
I've been reading various reports about people being upset by Oprah Winfrey having Bebe Winans on her show this past week and not having Chris Brown on her show a few months ago. Allegedly, Winans was also arrested for domestic abuse back in February for kicking his wife. Well, people are outraged and are saying that O only had Winans on the show because he's her friend. Personally, I don't think that people should fault O. She should be able to have whomever she wants on her show, and not be persecuted because of it. I understand, she spoke out against domestic violence, but quite possibly there's more to this story.
What do you think, was Oprah wrong????
Nearly 9 months after the horrible fight between Chris Brown and Rihanna, she is ready to tell her story. Rihanna will be on 2020 and tell her side of the story. I'm not sure who will interview her, but I hope that it's Diane Sawyer. What do you think she'll talk about??? I just hope that she's honest. Watch a clip below.
Last night Kandi of RHWA performed on the Mo'Nique show and it truly was a great performance. It was great seeing that she was doing and looking well after the tragic loss of her fiancee. She sat down with Mo on the couch and then took to the stage to perform her soon to be hit, "I fly above." I've been a Kandi fan since she first appeared in the group Xscape. As a matter of fact, the second concert that I ever went to was an Xscape concert. I love this song, and everyone should make it their anthem. Kandi is showing the world that she can fly above and overcome obstacles. Watch below:
I'm uncertain what to think of this, but did anyone watch 60 Minutes??? Allegedly, writer/director Spike Lee referred to Tyler Perry shows as buffoonery and coonery. Perry was "pissed" and responded. I've never seen his television shows, so I can't really respond; however, a lot of people LOVE his shows. Watch the clip below.
I was watching an interview Tameka Foster Raymond did with ATL V-103 and she seems a little delusional. I've never been married, so I don't know what it's like going through a messy divorce, but she's a royal mess. Why is she still referring to Usher as her boyfriend? Did she get the memo that he filed "dem paper?" LOL. Apparently not!!! watch as she still refers to Usher as her husband. I know the divorce hasn't been finalized, but I need her to focus and get it together--"the man doesn't want you..." please move on!
1. Hill Harper. He defines a great black man. He's educated, attractive, articulate, dedicated, I seriously can go on. I've been following his career forever. Someone needs to snatch this good man up. He's like 40, single, no children.
2. Reggie Bush. Brotha is handsome and chocolatey. Oh meowwww!
3. Terrell Owens. What can I say??? He's fine as hell. He makes me want to watch Football and trust me not too many men have been able to convince me.
4. Antonio Sabato Jr. has been a crush of mine for a while...simply because he's a beautiful man.
5. Pooch Hall is definitely yummy. The Game needs to be picked up by a network...mainly so I can continue to watch him.
There's no one that can change my mind on this one. I was watching the Wendy Williams show today and I am sooooo convinced that Angela Simmons is engaged. The two sisters were on Williams' show and as they showed their new Macy's fashion Wendy asked the girls about their relationships. When Wendy asked Vanessa about her boyfriend and how she was seen sporting "a ring" on that special finger, Vanessa then replied, "oh, that's not me sporting the ring."
Angela shyly hid her ring and then Wendy asked her who she was dating and if she was in love. Angela stated that she and her boyfriend Oscar Salinas from music producing group Play and Skillz have been together for a year and were in love. I was a bit disappointed that Wendy didn't pick up on the dialogue between Vanessa and Angela, and didn't realize that her ring was indeed an engagement ring. Angela was seen sporting a ring early last year when she was dating skater TK; however, that was obviously a promise ring. I know my eyes aren't lying to me... funny thing is, I'm usually right with my celebrity predictions. Wendy Williams needs to hire me to be her gossip researcher. Wendy, are you hiring??? LOL.
Ok, I live for this movie. It is one of the best in my eyes.
Based on the classic by Harlem Renaissance author Zora Neale Hurston, the film depicts the timeless, lyrical and passionate story of a beautiful and resilient woman's quest for love, sensual excitement and spiritual fulfillment, despite society's expectations of a woman of color in 1920s America. Ms. Berry stars as Janie Crawford, whose journey takes her through three marriages with very different men, and during which she experiences all that life has to offer, from tremendous success to unspeakable heartbreak.
I cried watching this movie, laughed and smiled. If you haven't seen it...you must! After watching this movie, I wanted Halle and Michael Ealy to be together in real life. No one can deny the chemistry that they had. I guess it's not too hard to have sparks fly with Michael. HA!
I just found out that Whitney's album is being released early...so happy! Instead of September 1st, it will be out on August 31st. Albums are usually released on Tuesday. Has a celebrity ever had an album come out on a Monday... just wondering. Anyway, I'm excited and I can't wait to blog about the album.
I'm so happy that one of my favorite singers will be returning on September 1st with a new album. Whitney Houston has always been one of my favorite singers and I will definitely purchase her album. When I was 9 years old I sung "The Greatest Love of All" at a school talent show. I wasn't half as talented in the singing department (haha), but I thought that I was a diva in training.
I can't wait until her album drops. I think I should pre-order it.... I'm paranoid that it will sale out. O, I'll be pissed if it sales out. Are you as excited??? Will you purchase her album???
What is your favorite old school Whitney track??? Mine would have to be "Saving all my Love" and "Same Script, Different Cast."
