As you might recall, I told you all two weeks ago that I was having surgery on my right wrist.  Well, yesterday I had my surgery.  So far, so good.  Please be patient with me in updating blog information, because I am restricted to using one hand and i'm still sore.  Thank you for your patience and all of your warm comments.
Love,
Lodie

This is for all of you born in the early 80's.  It's one of my favorite childhood movies.  Hugga Bunch is about a girl who travels through her mirror into HuggaLand to find a way to keep her grandmother, the only one who knows how to hug, young and from being sent to a home for elderly.  This is a must see movie for anyone who has small children.  All time favorite movie.  Do you remember this movie??? Did you own a Hugga Bunch Doll???

Which side of your brain do you use the most? This is a very interesting test. My friend and I tried it and it seems to really work. Everytime he would speak, the person in the video started moving in the opposite direction. Were my eyes playing tricks on me??? You be the judge. Try it out! What do you think???

I must vent.  I'll probably upset a few by saying this, but it's my personal opinion.  I have been reading a lot of blogs lately talking about First Lady Michelle Obama and her choice of designer Jason Wu, the man behind her one sleeved white inaugural gown.  Many bloggers have been claiming that Wu is a supporter of wearing fur and the slaughter of animals, and that Mrs. Obama might support the same views because she wore the gown.  Her wearing a designers gown has nothing to do with her views on fur or the slaughter of animals--she didn't wear fur to the inauguration!

I'm outraged that, all people can talk about in reference to our First Lady is, what she wore and who designed it.

I don't wear fur, so don't take this out of context.  I also think that cruelty against animals is horrible; however, that's my personal view.  I'm sick of people trying to force their beliefs on others.  I find it to be somewhat hypocritical.

You shouldn't wear fur, but you can sit up and eat a pig, cow, chicken, duck, etc.  What about those animals that are killed and eaten???

I challenge fellow bloggers to write about things of substance in reference to our First Lady, not this fluff that doesn't matter and has nothing to do with our economy or her job as First Lady.

President Barack Obama gave a wonderful speech at the Presidential Inauguration.  The tone of the speech reminded me of Dr. King.  Mr. President was confident, assertive, humbling, and direct.  That's what this country needs in a President.  A few highlights that I want to discuss.  I thought that Senator Diane Feinstein did a fantastic job in her opening speech introducing the speakers.  Rick Warren's (The Purpose Driven Life) prayer brought tears to my eyes.  The prayer was sincere and powerful, to say the least.  Singer, Aretha Franklin sang her heart out.  I love anyone who shares the same birthday as me.  Here's to years of prosperity, longevity, and humbleness for our country.

Michelle Williams of Destiny's Child is the homie, but I think she may have been a little... how can I put this, High (allegedly). I don't know why she felt it necessary to defend herself against someone who was talking about her attire. Um, OK! That's what people do to those in the public eye. Watch below as she rambles on about nonsense. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan, but good lord-someone please tell her that silence is much better in her situation.

Thoughts?????

Last night was my first class of the semester and I found out some disappointing news, I don't have Dr. Kings day off.  So, I have to be in school this Monday while many other students, workers, etc. are celebrating Dr. Kings accomplishments, or just plain relaxing.  Isn't that a federal holiday, why do I have school??? Also, I have to work and go to school on Inauguration Day.  In my opinion, everyone should have both days off.  There's something wrong with this picture.

Thoughts???

I'm all for people having an opinion, but I'm tired of Elizabeth on The View.  The ridiculousness has to be stopped.  Here's my gripe, there's nothing wrong with having your own view points, but PLEASE have a clear explanation.  She defends President Bush on topics such as the war and Hurricane Katrina, ok, I get it--"you want to back up your president," but stop defending him on things that he was wrong on.  It's a fact that he didn't act fast enough on assisting victims during the hurricane, and it's also a fact that he had delayed reaction on the 9-11 attack.

Ok, people make mistakes, I get that, but please own up to your mistakes.  She's beginning to come across as being silly and unintelligent, because when you ramble at the mouth defending something that 90 percent of people see as incorrect--you look crazy.  That's just how society is.  I painfully watched her today, as she argued about how the president gave survival backpacks to the people in New York in case another attack happened.  Um ok, GReeeat... What else has been done???

Were all the people in New York given backpacks??? Um, who knows.  Doubt it.  What about the victims of Katrina that are still living in trailers? She talked about how not enough people give him credit for his hard work... No comment! Another thing that irritates me about this woman, she defended the h-e-double hockey sticks out of Sarah Palin's daughter being pregnant and deciding to have her baby, but what about the fact that she claimed to be against premarital sex, against having a child out of wedlock, what about all the crap she talked about Jamie Lynn Spears having a baby and not being married... I beg your pardon Elizabeth, what's the difference???

Defend you views by all means, but please have a reason, and your reason shouldn't just be based on the fact that you belong to the same "party" as an individual.

Did you watch The View???

One of my all time favorite weekend movies is Adventures in Babysitting. I first saw this movie when I was six years old, and I immediately fell in love with it. It's about a babysitter named Cris who's played by Elizabeth Shue. Cris decides to babysit after a date with her boyfriend is cancelled; however, soon she receives a call from her "runaway" best friend, and her and the kids head to downtown Chicago. Along the way, they encounter a few criminals and some interesting adventures. Check the clip out below. Have you ever seen this movie??? Do you have a suggestion for a weekend movie???

How many American's are living beyond their means? I know that I am.  Yesterday, I went to the mall and spent way more money than I had and needed to on my budget.  At the time, I walked away feeling great.  I needed new jeans (my old pairs were too small), that's an investment??? RIGHT??? LOL.  I mean, ok, so I spent money on a new black purse from Aldo, but it was on sale--marked down from $50 to $35, again, that's an investment, right??? I needed a monthly bus pass, how else will I get around--I don't own a car anymore.

Things that I didn't need:

I didn't need new sunglasses, and facial products, but something in the back of my head told me to purchase them, so I did.

When I arrived home and began to calculate the amount I spent, I felt sick to my stomach.  I didn't even spend that much, but the fact that I'm so freaking broke drives me crazy.  I guess, I did pick one of the most expensive places to live.  Love Hawaii, but good lord! I had this discussion with a colleague about the difference of living in the Bay Area vs. Hawaii.  While Hawaii is probably a little cheaper in terms of housing (not by that much), but a little bit, the Bay Area or even living in the mainland is cheaper to overall LIVE.  I spend way more money here than I did back home.  I cooked a lot more back home that's one thing.  I realize that, I don't cook as much here, because my kitchen is sooo small that I never want to cook.  Seriously, I don't have a lot of space.  Also, the prices on clothing, cosmetics, etc. cost a lot more.  I spend so much money in Walmart that it's ridiculous.  And, I can't just buy any ol product, because of severe allergies.

Here's the facts:

In two years, I will complete grad school and hopefully earn a lot more money, but in the meantime, I need to put my entrepreneurial skills to use and figure out how to make more money.  This new year, I told myself that I would make more, live better, and be happier.  So, by the end of this year, I need to make a few major changes.

Until then, I need to stick to a strict budget... Yes, somehow, it will have to happen--even in Hawaii.  I'm sure Suse Orman would have a lot to say...I can hear her voice now, "DENIED!"  Well, I'm sorry, but it's kind of difficult to deny myself things when I always deny myself.  When will I ever have enough money??? Growing up, my parents would always tell me to work hard and that the hard work will pay off, but how long until it starts paying off??? because, it definitely hasn't so far.

For goodness sakes, I'm up at 4 am going over in my mind about business plans, LOL.  I can't help it, I'm an Aries.  We're very compulsive by nature.  This New Year has to bring more positive changes, because I need a HUGE increase in my overall annual income.  I want to be able to call in on Suse Orman's segment and she says to me, "APPROVED!"  I want to be able to have financial freedom.  I want to walk in the mall and not stress over spending money.  This new year, I am taking control... I will have some form of financial freedom... I am claiming it, and I own it.

Everyone loves nice things.  What 20 + year old doesn't??? Maybe, I need to hurry up and get married, so we can have a combined income. Ha Ha, I kid.  Kinda.

 I'm signing off for now,

This is my confessional: I'm Broke As Hell, but I Like Nice Things!

Everyone's favorite movie director porn director has a new show called, For The Love of Ray J .  I just caught the clip of the program which airs February 2 on VH1.  The show is similar to all the other dating shows... the typical, women competing at a chance to be with Ray J.  I'm not sure what else is to be expected, but I pray that it's not another Flavor Of Love reject.  Either way, there's no frontin here, I will be glued to the television.  Ray J is kinda yum, yum, although, I still think he was messed up for blasting Kim K.  So, why does Ray J need to audition girls??? Um, Is it all about the money??? Well, either way--I'm sure there will be some interesting characters.

Will you watch???

I met this guy, everything seemed to be going cool, and for three months everything was good.  So, forward to the night before New Years Eve.  We hung out, had a good-time, I thought.  As we ended our date he turned to me and said, "I'll see you tomorrow."  And, to his reply, I responded, "Ok, you will?" Although, we had made plans to hangout prior, I didn't expect to hangout, because I figured he would get really busy with his friends.

So on New Years Eve, I made plans with my girls.  We went out to this fabulous bar, and had a great time.  But, of course with a little "liquid courage" you begin to obsess over things you wouldn't normally give a damn about.  I checked my phone like ten times, but nope he didn't text nor call.  So, I decided that I would text him.  Conveniently or just plain luck, the lights went out inside the bar.  So, everyone was sitting in the dark for 20 minutes.  LOL.  When the lights finally came back on, it was time for the count down.  "10, 9, 8..." HAPPY NEW YEAR," everyone yelled.  My friends and I hug and celebrated with a toast.  Of course, I had to pick up my phone and begin my random text.  Worried that something happened to him not really, I just needed an excuse to call.  I texted him, "The lights went out, but...back on, Happy New Year."  No reply! WTF, I thought.

I didn't trip over it for too long, because I didn't want to ruin my night or anyone else's night.  When the night ended, I expected to receive a phone call since we made plans and all, and he said that he would see me.  Nope, I didn't get a phone call or text until Saturday when I texted him.  His reply, "My phone went dead, and I wasn't home."  Seriously!! Two days later, he calls and gives me an explanation saying that he had been going through a lot and didn't feel like talking.  Finally, a real explanation.  I wasn't angry, I completely understood.  The conversation ended with him telling me that he would call me.  So, I thought since he called, I'd hear from him again.  In the beginning, he kept his word...he called, texted, seemed interested.  But of course he didn't call.

So, because I'm a woman and we ALWAYS want to give people the benefit of the doubt, I texted him.  "Is everything ok?"  His response, "Yes, I've just been busy with work."  Ten minutes of texting back and forth, I realized that I was making a fool of myself, "He's just not that into me."  I read the damn book, I get it.

Maybe a person's word is just a word, and we as women give it too much power.

Thoughts???

Aarggh, I'm freaking out.  I have a Ganglion Cyst on my right wrist that has to be surgically removed.  A Ganglion cyst is a tumor or smelling on the top joint that connects the muscle to bone.  I don't know how the cyst developed.  I just remember that I was hanging out with a group of people and this guy looked down at my wrist and replied, "Oh my God, girl, what happened to your hand?"  And, I immediately started panicking because I didn't know.

Thinking back, I remember my wrist feeling strained at one point, so I'm sure there's some connection.  I've had this for about 1 1/2 year now.  I went to get it drained last year, but the cyst returned after one week.  According to the research that I have been doing, Ganglion Cyst are common in women between the ages of 20-40 years.  My surgery takes place at 9am.  I'm not sure what to expect, but I may be a little sore, so forgive me if I don't blog for a couple of days.  Below is a picture of the cyst on my wrist.  Right now, it's about the size of a nickel, but it goes up and down in size.

Pretty gross, right??? Have you ever had a Ganglion Cyst or another kind???

Did you purchase makeup between 1994 and 2003 from Nordstroms or Macy's? Well, great news, you are apart of a multi-million dollar class action lawsuit.  The lawsuit claims that companies and department stores conspired to fix prices.  Soon, American's can stand in line at either department store and receive $175 million in free makeup.  Yes, you heard right! And, it's the good makeup: Chanel, Mac, and more.

There is nothing additional that consumers are required to do, according to cosmeticssettlement.com, just show up.

I had heard reports about Sharon Osbourne throwing a drink on Megan from Rock of Love, but I hadn't seen the clip until now. I can't even blame Sharon, because if someone talked about my family member like that, I'd be upset. Megan seemed shocked...I doubt that she expected Sharon to respond the way that she did. Well, here's a lesson and it's an old saying, "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all." Watch the clip below. Do you think that Sharon's reaction was justified??? Who's side are you on???

One of my favorite books The Bell Jar is being made into a movie.  This book is an autobiographical novel about poet Sylvia Plath.  The Bell Jar tells a story of a young woman's mental breakdown in the early 1950s, and the difficulties she faced during a summer internship in New York City.  This book was one of the first books that my mom gave to me when I went off to college.  She had to read the book for a women's study class and kept it in her possession for 30 years.  The movie doesn't have a release date, but Julia Stiles from the Bourne movies and Save the Last Dance will play the main character.  I'm so excited!

Have you read The Bell Jar??? Will you go see the movie??? And, what do you think of Julia Stiles playing the main character???

One of my favorite movies to watch on the weekend is Love Jones.  The movie stars Larenz Tate and Nia Long.  I think it's one of the best romance movies of the 90's.  When this movie came out I was only 15, but my sister who's a few years older came home telling me about this movie.  She raved about how well it was written, and how it was so REAL when it came to dating.  Well, at 15 I definitely couldn't appreciate nor understand the movie's concept, but now in my 20's I HEART this movie.  Now, if only I could find my Larenz Tate in real life.  LOL.

Do you love Love Jones as much as I do??? Do you have a favorite romance movie???

A New Year Resolution that I didn't discuss in my previous post is to commit to workout and to spiritually and mentally be a better person.  To begin my workout routine for the New Year, I attended my first yoga class this morning.  Truly, it was the best experience ever.  I actually feel a bit more centered and at peace.  I had a little negative energy that was slowly trying to get in my way and I feel like I have released the toxins.  LOL.  Well, that's how my instructor referred to the negative energy.  In the past I have made commitments to workout and clear my mind and didn't follow through, but this year is different.  I definitely LOVE yoga.

Have you ever tried yoga???? What's your favorite exercise class??? I want to hear your thoughts.

Dr. Dre's son, Andre Young Jr., 20, was found unresponsive by his mother the morning of August 23, 2008.  Young had partied with friends the night before, but was unable to wake up the next morning, and later pronounced dead.  According to PEOPLE coroner spokesman Larry Dietz told the reputable magazine that the case had been closed, and it was ruled an accidental death due to morphine and heroin intoxication.

Thoughts go out to Dr. Dre and his family.

Very sad news.  John Travolta's 16 year old son Jett died Friday while the family vacationed in the Bahamas.  The circumstances surrounding his death is unknown; however, Jett suffered from Kawasaki disease, a rare condition which affects the heart.  Reports state that the 16 year old went into a seizure while on the family vacation and that attempts to save him were unsuccessful.  Jett was the eldest child of John Travolta and Kelly Preston.  Below is a picture of the family taken 8 years ago when Jett (pictured to far left) was 8 years old.

Thoughts and prayers go out to the family. R.I.P. Jett Travolta.

There's this clip circulating on you tube where Katt Williams is doing stand up on New Years Eve dissing the mess out of T-Pain and Steve Harvey. The first clip was removed, so watch this before it's removed. He had some very interesting things to say about a break dance competition between he and T-pain. Also, he disses Steve Harvey "Original Kings." There's two clips and both are wig snatchers. Williams further insults T-Pain by accusing the married singer, producer of being a homosexual. OOWEE. Someone is hitting those rocks.  Must watch clip below:

Hopefully everyone had a fabulous New Years Eve.  Did you all make a New Years Resolution? Well, every year I make a resolution just to remind myself to stay focused and this year is no different.  I don't always keep my resolutions, but I promised myself that I would try harder at sticking to them.  So, here are my resolutions:

1. To work harder
2. Be a better student
3. Have a more positive attitude
4. Rid myself of negative energy
5. Travel
6. Enjoy life more
7. Finally publish my poetry book, and work on Children's book.

Of all these resolutions the most important thing to me this year is to enjoy being in my 20's and self preservation.

I want to hear your resolutions.  Are your resolutions similar to mine or pretty far fetched???
